Slovenia coast holidays
The coast of Slovenia is a mere 46km long and one of the oldest and most attractive coastal towns is the old seaport of Piran that lies at the end of the Piran peninsula.
Piran, pictured right, has preserved the medieval layout with narrow streets
and compact houses that give the town a Mediterranean look. Piran's architecture
reflects its Venetian legacy and there is still a lively Italian community
living there today. You will find plenty of waterfront restaurants and
cafes offering great views out over the Adriatic, the bustling old harbour
and the delightful main square; pick your spot for some serious people-watching!
The
nearby and much larger modern resort of Portoroz (pictured
left) offers a sheltered bay with safe bathing and a marina and there are
plenty of hotels, bars, restaurants and shops that make this a popular
seaside resort although there are no sandy beaches to speak of. The Spa
Palace centre is a major spa and thermal centre offering more than 150
treatments all year round.
For the active there are plenty of opportunities for sailing, swimming, windsurfing and hand-gliding along the Slovene coast or, for something a bit different, visit the unique Salt Pan Regional Park close to the Croatian border.
