The
Pohorje Hills to the east of Maribor is a special region of Slovenia’s
mountain world, with remarkable peat moors with lakes, extensive grassy
plains and mountain slopes. You can explore huge forests and gigantic trees,
well-marked mountaineering and hiking trails wonderful for cross-country
skiing, cycling - in the autumn the colours are a blaze of oranges and
reds. At the foot of the mountains, the land gives way to carved glacial
valleys and lush green farmland.
