Slovenia steam train rides on the Bohinj Railway
Why not relax and enjoy spectacular scenery on one of these Slovenia steam
train rides along the historic Bohinj Railway?
Take a step back in time and enjoy all the sights, sounds and smells of the golden age of steam as the locomotive hauls the carriages along the line which recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. Railway guards in authentic uniforms and tour guides will be on hand to point out sights of interest and there will be entertainment along the way, including live music.
The train leaves from Jesenice and steams past the alpine jewels of Bled
and Bohinj, through the tunnel under the Bohinj mountains, onto the southern
side of the Julian Alps and into the Soca Valley.
The tour then continues by bus to the wine-growing region of Goriska Brda, where you will be served a delicious dinner before returning to the train for the journey home.
The Bohinj Railway was built by the Austro-Hungarian empire in a bid to connect Central Europe with the Adriatic Sea. Construction on the line, which is a section on the Prague-Trieste railway, began in 1900.
