Hotel Slon
This is a very centrally situated hotel in a pedestrianised area with the unusual benefit of valet parking; an ideal location for anyone wishing to be in the heart of the city and with easy access to all the wonderful sights of Ljubljana. The hotel is particularly convenient for those without transport who wish to travel to other areas of Slovenia. The public areas and many of the rooms have been renovated to a very high standard at this traditional hotel and there is a Spa area for relaxation. Rooms have comfortable beds, luxury linen, pillow menus and coffee machines. The exceptionally friendly and helpful staff receive much praise and the extensive buffet breakfast is magnificent.
The Slon hotel (the Slovenian word for Elephant) has its origin in the mid 19th Century (1856 and 1858 ) when a new hotel building was built. The Hotel in that period was renowned for its baths, which were visited by many of the wealthy citizens of Ljubljana. The hotel building survived for 80 years, even surviving the powerful 1895 earthquake. However, in 1937, the construction of the new Hotel Slon had begun to follow the the modernist architecture fashion of the 1930s. Crowds of local people came to the construction site to observe the new hotel growing before their eyes. When completed, it was said to be the most beautiful and the most modern hotel in Ljubljana.
